Word To Your Mother!
Hello lovelies. I’m hope you’re all having a fantastically titillating and delicious day. My day was fabulous, with one slight hick-up. The title of today’s post is a subtle hint. I’m not going to tell you about it just yet though. I’m going to drag it out and lure you along with promises of humor, shock, reflection, denial, anger and laughter.
Our story begins with a delicious bowl of grandma approved, oat infused goodness.
BREAKFAST (meal #1) at 9:00am.
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup wheat bran
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 1 tbs unsweetened dark cocoa
- Splenda
- (Microwaved and topped with 1 tbs Better N’ Peanut Butter and a mix of golden and regular raisins.)
I was feeling the work flow today. My nearing deadline of “get crap done before you leave for vacation” has me in super-maximum-mega-warp-speed-overdrive. Ahhh the subtle scent of burnt flesh. Caused by my speed typing which produced sparks and smoke from my fingertips. It’s essence was oozing from my office all day today. A rich bodied aroma with hints of Hungarian paprika. Very odd. HAHAHA!
Lunchtime rolled around in what seemed like minutes today. I couldn’t wait to dive into my magical polka dot lunch bag. Packed full of nutritious, delicious, scrumptiolicious (yes I just made that word up) goodies.
LUNCH (meal #2) at 12:30pm.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Miss. Awesomely Amazing Salad. Please give her a warm round of applause. She was loved while she lasted. Though her time in this bowl was limited, she will never be forgotten. Oh Miss. Salad, you had me at first bite.
- Spinach
- Cherry tomatoes
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Leftover Roasted Brussel Sprouts
- Black Bean Burger
- Corn
- Alfalfa Sprouts
- Spray Butter
I don’t know what it was about this combo but I was all sorts of OVER IT. I ate every single last little morsel. No bite gets left behind!!!!
Ann and I went to the grocery store on our break today. It’s like my second home. SCARY how much time I spend gazing at fresh produce and perfectly organized isles of packaged goodies. LOVE IT! Sometimes I envision myself dancing, singing and twirling with a basket full of apples in slow motion while hugging boxed cereal. Envision The Sound Of Music if you will. Brilliant right?
It was during our shopping adventure that my one hick-up of the day occurred. We were getting in line to check out when the CLEARLY wise and CLEARLY brilliant (IDIOT) cashier asked us if we were mother and daughter. You know, because we look a like? MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR! You son of a _____! Really???? Sisters doesn’t come to mind first? Fifteen months separate Ann and I. IS HE KIDDING? OMG! I’m not sure if you can kill with a look but mine was definitely throwing a full set of rusty knives at this man jugular. Ann kept silent. I think she was fearful of her life and made NO eye contact with me what so ever.
We checked out and got out of there as quickly as humanly possible. You know, before things got ugly and I ended up on Americas Most Wanted for violently attacking and ripping apart a complete stranger. Ann attempted to console me by saying that maybe he thought she was the mom. Then I reminded her that Mr. Charming carded her for her bottle of wine and did NOT card me for mine. HA! I’m pretty sure this points the Mama fingers in my apparently aged direction.
After a while we were laughing at it. Hard. However, I just have to say, HOW RUDE! Ann and I are both in our early 30′s. If he saying I look 50? HAHA. I mean seriously. I immediately blamed my new orange glasses. I HAD TO BLAME SOMETHING!
SNACK (meal #3) at 4:15pm.
I had a plain 0% Fage with a very ripe pair, Udi’s cranberry granola and cinnamon. A tasty, healthy good for you treat that even a MOTHER can appreciate. :-O
After work it was off to the gym.

SNACK (meal #4) at 7:15pm.
I made a quick shake the second I got home. I just stirred a scoop of chocolate peanut butter whey protein into a glass of 1/2 vanilla Almond breeze and 1/2 water. I added some ice and cinnamon to make it perfect. Tasty tasty… I’m pretty sure that cinnamon is my favorite spice of all time!! Cayenne being the close second!
After cleaning my sweaty self up, I started prepping dinner. All I wanted for dinner was soup and salad. A thunderstorm hit shortly after I got home and soup just sounded SO good.
For the sandwich I pan seared some peppered turkey and smoked ham in a pan with a bit of spray butter for just a few seconds. I added them to two slices of wheat bread with a slice of Munster cheese. I had already sprayed the outside of each slice with a bit more spray butter. I tossed the sandwich into the same pan and toasted the outsides until they were nice and golden. When it was done, I peeled it apart and added some crisp, cool lettuce for a bit of a crunch. This was delicious!
For the soup, I made one of my favorite little packets. Thai Kitchen, Bangkok Curry. Not the GREATEST ingredients, I know, but it’s freakin delicious. Calorie wise it’s only 170 so not TOO bad. I followed the microwave directions and added some red pepper flakes and fresh green onions on top. LOVED IT!
Yeah, it was sort of a lazy attempt at dinner but it was super tasty. I used to make sandwiches like this all the time. MAKE ONE, they are tasty! Trust me, this “Mom” knows what she is talking about, for I am wise. As wise as a 50 year old apparently. HAHAHAHA!
Okay, ENOUGH already. I must get over it and MOVE on.

JolieMD Whitens Skin with Resorcinol – Hardly Green!
I was approached today to review a new product for skin lightening, JolieMD (Angelina Jolie, are you listening? Any chance you have a Jolie doctor in your brood?)
The JolieMD line, founded by plastic surgeons (none of whom carries Jolie surname) consists of two products which are claimed to be free from parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrances, dyes, kojic acid, or hydroquinone. Two products are presumable able to remove excessive pigmentation and achieve clear, even complexion. Using what? Resorcinol and a number of “snake oil” ingredients with funny and less-than-scientific names such as “Whitonyl” and “Symcalmil.” Oh yes, and there may be a “Super-All-Does-It-nyl” hiding among the ingredients – because, you see, these products are so exclusive, you won’t be able to see their ingredients before you buy them.
To add credibility to the insult, the product description claims that allantoin “removes dry skin” and resorcinol has “antioxidant properties…” The before-after photographs show women with and without makeup -hardly relevant if we are talking dramatic results endorsed by “Hollywood doctors.”
Poor Angelina Jolie, who knows how many mediocre products will bear her name for the sake of great Google search results…
Importance of Enzymes For Digestion
You need a large supply of digestive enzymes to process food as it passes through your intestines. Here’s how they work:
The food you put into your mouth is a complex mixture of large organic molecules — macromolecules. There are fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, along with vitamins, minerals, and other components.
To absorb these nutrients into your bloodstream, you’ve got to break these large molecules down into smaller bits.
Fortunately, your system has evolved sophisticated chemical engineering to accomplish just that. While you’re polishing off your latest meal, digestive enzymes are pouring into your small intestine (from your liver, pancreas, and gall bladder) to break down the large macromolecules into easily absorbable smaller pieces.
These digestive enzymes are specialized proteins, each designed to break apart a specific type of molecule in your food.
All too often, diminished levels of your normal digestive enzymes are the root cause of less-than-optimal digestive function. Here are a few of the many common reasons that your enzymes might be depleted.
-
A generally unbalanced diet, without the right mix of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins
-
Inadequate vitamin or mineral intake
-
Poor eating habits — rushing through meals, not chewing thoroughly
-
Exposure to artificial food additives, colorings, and preservatives
-
The aging process — as you advance into middle age, a certain degree of enzyme depletion becomes almost inevitable
With all these possible factors contributing to enzyme depletion, it’s no wonder that minor digestive complaints are so common.
Fortunately, there are a number of steps you can take today to make sure your digestive tract has maximal support to do its job. It begins when you take your first bite. Read more from Dr. Joseph Mercola.

Kicking Butt Feels So Awesome.

How’s it going kids?
I have to say, I am feeling so awesome about EVERYTHING right now. In particular of course, I’m feeling awesome about the results I am seeing from my diet and workouts. This week it feels GREAT to be HOME and not traveling. I can actually catch up and have a solid week of workouts in. What is going great? What is different?
MINDSET.
Thank you to Amy who got me started in the right direction. I’ve spent way too much of my life cursing myself and berating myself for not reaching my fitness goals. If you had any idea how much I’ve avoided doing anything fun because I was obsessing about my diet and feeling crappy about how I looked, well, you would probably want to slap me. My attitude about myself and toward myself has changed dramatically and that’s due in a big way to my dear friend Amy, who told me to start talking NICE to myself. People, it makes a difference. I spend enough time encouraging and motivating others, why not me?? Attitude is everything. It really is.
Secondly, my mindset toward food has altered dramatically since incorporating the fasting principles of Eat Stop Eat. I am no longer spending all day obsessing over what I can’t have or shouldn’t have, or worrying about scientific percentages of proteins/carbs/fats. I eat what I want when I want and if it doesn’t fit in to the “rules” in Oxygen magazine or The Zone or Fitness magazine or any great fitness/diet book out there, I DON’T CARE. I know that what I’m doing now is what is BEST FOR ME. Clearly because it is working. I’m losing weight so easily, my body is changing dramatically, and I have no doubts anymore about being in my favorite shorts this summer, in my bikini – in better shape than ever before- and overall just feeling good naked! Right? That’s the real test. Do I feel good walking by mirror naked, or am I turning that dimmer WAAAAYYYY DOWN. Ok? Because I’m not obsessing, I’m naturally eating less, I am ENJOYING LIFE along the way. Do you guys know that for over a year- I was obsessing, not drinking, not going out- all because I was worried about messing up my results and/or worried about looking fat- and I WASN’T GETTING ANY RESULTS in fact, I was plateau-ing or worse. Now- I can attend industry events, enjoy myself, hang out with my friends and enjoy myself and – guess what, the body looks better EVERY SINGLE DAY. It’s almost like magic but it isn’t. It’s just living life right. All things in moderation. And consistent kick butt workouts.
Workouts.
With a few exceptions, like the crazy week of being gone 6 days out of 7- I’m working out consistently. When I don’t “feel like it”, I remind myself of the WORST THING that really upsets me, like say putting on my favorite jeans and not liking the way they fit. I focus on how that feels, and then I work out because I don’t want to deal with that ever again. When I have a nutty day, sometimes I just do a 30-60 minute kick butt power walk. Who cares if it isn’t my normal weights/cardio? It is something and it is a change…..I’m big on changing it up. NOT being predictable with my workouts. I want to not bore myself and I want my body to never know what is coming. Whatever I do, I do it hard and make it a sweatfest and I KEEP DOING IT.
BELIEF.
You have to believe you can do it. For a LONG TIME I wasn’t believing in myself. Mr. Jay used to force me to say that I am UNSTOPPABLE. He called me his Warrior that could do anything. And then, when he was gone and I was going through unemployment and tough times and medical issues….I gave in. Gave in to self-pity. Gave in to the illness. Gave up in many ways without realizing it. NEVER AGAIN. I’m back and I believe in myself more than ever before. And my body is showing it.
Now. You all have a kick butt day. Below is a video I tried to share on Facebook today but they said it had “offensive content that has been reported as abusive on Facebook”. Um, hello? A shoulder workout?? #FBFail This is my girl Jenny Lynn and Trish Warren prior to the Olympia! Notice the use of Plyo between sets- kids I am doing this type of mini-cardio all the time when I do weights. I do cardio first, get all sweaty, then start whatever weight training I’m gonna do but I’ll do sprints and plyo or Tabata in between, it keeps my heart rate up, keeps me sweaty and the caloric burn is killer.
Question of the Day: Who is your workout inspiration? Do you have a fitness “celebrity” or competitor that just totally motivates you?
FIFA World Cup 2010 Schedule
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations.
This will be the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation, after South Africa beat Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process. This decision left the Oceania Football Confederation as the only confederation yet to host the FIFA World Cup. Italy are the defending champions. The draw for the finals took place on 4 December 2009 in Cape Town.

Fast Detox Cleansing Diet Lunch Recipe
Just had this today and it was excellent, tasty and refreshing.
First get 2 cucumbers and 3 Fuji apples. Cut them up and Juice them in your juicer.
If you don’t have a juicer see the ones listed on the sidebar and grab one from Amazon. Free shipping right now I think.
Then to round it out and make it a solid meal grab an Avacado and some full grain or better yet multi grain bread. I like mayonaise but if that bugs you try olive oil. To season it I add some Lemon Pepper and garlic powder. Writing this is making my mouth water.
I have a quick trick for putting the avacado on the bread that you might appreciate. I cut it in half, take out the pit, then squeeze each half together right over the bread. It all mushes out just fine and right now. Then I chop across it a bit so it all fits. One medium avacado is fine for one sandwich.
Fill in the form and get on my list and I will send you a nice recipe once a week.

How Can My Husband Safely Gain Weight?
Hi Ms. Beebe,
My husband has always had high cholesterol and recently high blood pressure. So to combat this, he’s been watching what he eats, but now he is losing weight. It’s a double-edged sword. He does need to gain weight. I’ve tried to help by giving him extra pasta, potatoes and rice.
He weighs 153 (his lowest point recently being 148#, and he should be 170.
We would like to know with the two situations in mind, are there any foods that you might recommend that could help him gain the weight he needs and not wreak havoc on his cholesterol?
Thank You! Kimberly H.
Dear Kimberly,
You have the right idea going! Pastas, potatoes and rice are both low in fat and sodium, so they won’t be interfering with his cholesterol or blood pressure!
Other foods to add that are low in both sodium and cholesterol:
1. Fruits (dried fruits and juices can add quite a few calories)
2. Cereals (both hot or cold) with skim milk
3. “Good” fats like nuts and sunflower seeds
4. Dry peas and beans
5. Lean meats like chicken breasts and fish
Sometimes people do tend to go a bit overboard when they have decided to eat better for their health, and they avoid foods they don’t need to be avoiding or take amounts that aren’t enough to support their energy needs. Perhaps your husband can eat larger portions of some foods, or start incorporating snacks.
If he is not able to gain weight because his appetite isn’t big enough to eat more of these healthy foods, he can try a supplement (like Carnation Instant Breakfast or Ensure). These do not have cholesterol and are quite low in sodium. If he drinks 2 a day (about 250 calories in each serving) he can expect to put on about one pound each week.
If weight loss continues, be sure to visit the doctor with this information and check out any other possibilities that could be causing weight loss.
