Danger Triangle of Face and Related Tips

Dangerous area of face

Dangerous area of face

Also known as

  • Dangerous area of face
  • Danger area of face
  • Triangle of death of face

Definition and description

It approximately covers the area from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose, including the nose and maxilla. The facial vein is the largest vein of the face with no valves. Deep connections of the facial veins include:

  • A communication between the supraorbital and superior opthalmic veins.
  • With the pterygoid plexus through the deep facial vein which passes backwards over the buccinator.
Facial vein

Veins of face and their deep coneections with the cavernous sinus and the pterygoid plexus of veins

The facial vein communicates with the cavernous sinus through these connections. Infections from the face can spread in retrograde direction and cause thrombosis of the cavernous sinus. This is specially likely to occur in the presence of infection in the upper lip and in the lower lip and in the lower part of the nose. Cavernous sinus thrombosis can be serious and needs to be treated immediately. It is easily treated with high doses of antibiotics given intravenously.

For General Understanding

The blood from this area drains to the back of the head and it also meets up with veins at the base of the brain. From there it goes to the cavernous sinus, where all the blood is received. All the blood vessels from this area drain eventually to the brain. Any infections from this area can cause eye and vision problems, headaches, fever, neck stiffness, etc. It can lead to complications like blindness, paralysis of face, meningitis, sepsis and possibly death.

Points to Remember

  • Use a clean tissue to clean something from your nose instead of picking it with fingers. Nasal passage can be cleaned using nasal rinses.
  • Instead of plucking your nose hair, use a nose trimmer.
  • Do not squeeze or pick the pimples or zits in this area. Use emollient jelly instead.
  • Facial piercings may also give problems.

Grapefruit Seed Extract as a Preservative

Grapefruit seed extract is a powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial agent rich in flavonoids, vitamins C and E, citric acid, and various minerals. As a substance, it is clear and nearly odorless. I found that it blends well with most creams, lotions, and foaming cleansers for face and body.

I frequently use grapefruit seed extract in my skincare, because as a preservative it works well with vitamins A, C and E to produce a stable antioxidant quartet that may extend shelf life of your products up to 12 months.

Make sure that you purchase a pure grapefruit seed extract that has not been adulterated with synthetic chemical benzethonium chloride. Also please keep in mind that grapefruit may interact with certain prescription medications.

Honey Mustard Chicken with Pretzel Crust

Prep Time: 20 Min
Cook Time: 25 Min
Ready In: 45 Min
Original Recipe Yield 4 servings
Ingredients
cooking spray
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
1 tablespoon spicy mustard
1 tablespoon coarse-grained mustard
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
4 cups salted pretzels
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
3 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray.
In a bowl, mix together the red wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, the spicy mustard, coarse-grained mustard, 1 tablespoon of honey, and the vegetable oil.
Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of heavy plastic (resealable freezer bags work well) on a solid, level surface. Firmly pound the chicken with the smooth side of a meat mallet to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Coat the chicken well with the mustard mixture.
Place the pretzels into a resealable plastic zipper bag and roll the bag under a rolling pin to finely grind the pretzels. Place the coated chicken breasts, one at a time, into the bag, seal, and shake the bag to thoroughly coat each chicken breast with pretzel meal. Place the chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet and spray each breast with cooking spray.
Bake the chicken in the preheated oven until the coating is golden brown and the meat is no longer pink in the center, about 25 minutes. Flip the chicken after about 12 minutes of cooking to brown both sides.
Mix together the mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard, 3 tablespoons of honey, and salt in a bowl. Drizzle the honey-mustard sauce over the chicken to serve.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid CLA and its benefits

Introduction

Everyone is so aware of what is fattening or not that dieting has become popular among the has-beens and wannabes that we bump into ever so often. Fat or the euphemism plump is barely something a woman would like to hear much less consider as a part of her own personal thesaurus.

And when did the word 'fat' in almost every health-directed conversation become a bad thing?

Not all fat in our body is bad namely saturated fats; there is good fat too in the form of brown fat (which was discovered only recently) as well as unsaturated fats as well.

Unsaturated fats are further subdivided into monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that not only lower total and LDL cholesterol while also supporting important body functions such as nutrient absorption, nerve transmission among others.

The one thing that is common amongst all types of fats is that they all consist of fatty acids, and there are some fatty acids that are essential in order to maintain and build the health of one's body.

Essential Fatty Acids

There are only two essential fatty acids that the body needs: alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid). The reason to consider them as essential is that the body needs these acids but cannot make them from food components for important biological processes.

And while the aforementioned omega-3 fatty acid can be found in a number of seed oils and green leafy vegetables, the omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid) is basically found in a host of oils, eggs and so on and so forth.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

At another level altogether, at least 28 isomers (meaning same chemical formula, different structure) of linoleic acid which is known as Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) are found in meat and dairy products derived from goats, sheep and cattle among several others in the family of Ruminantia.

And the reason why such a big deal is being made out of it is because CLA has been known to display medicinal properties that could seriously influence one area of research that has been stagnating for the past few decades among several others.

Benefits

For some time now, CLA was treated as another 'bad fat' that one must stay away from, and thus dieters did so, until research uncovered how essential it is for the body to be healthy.

Since the highest levels of CLA comes from beef, lamb and dairy products, it is recommended that instead of taking supplements, one should eat grass-fed beef and lamb, as this is the primary source of CLA.

So, here are the benefits

a. Anti-cancer properties – by inhibiting the growth of tumors as well as reducing their size as well

b. Weight Loss – reduced body fat and increases preservation of muscle tissue

c. Preventing Weight Gain – By keeping small fat cells from growing larger

d. Others – Strengthen the immune system, lower triglyceride and LDL cholesterol which reduces glucose output in diabetics.

Side Effects – ZERO!

In Closing

Knowledge changes things, and for this to happen one must check and recheck the obstacles and barriers that they have set for themselves. Go educate yourself, find the latest developments and so on and so forth… but don't sit on your ass, or else you'd get fat!

How Do I Keep The Weight/Fat Off? Q&A of The Week

Every week I answer a question or questions that are sent in to me regarding fat burning, weight loss, diet, fitness and or the Fat X Program (FX12).  This week’s question was e-mailed in and is in regards to keeping the fat off after completing the FX 12.

Hi Coach,
I hit a plateau in my weight loss about a month ago and nothing was working.  I decided to try your fat burning program and start my own Fat X Project.  I also read your tips and info about not worrying about weight and focusing on fat loss and losing inches and it worked!  I dropped two dress sizes since then.  How do I keep the weight and fat off and continue burning more fat, at least slowly?
Gina

Gina, first of all congratulations on your fat loss and dropping those two dress sizes.  There’s a few things you can do.  You can either continue with the FX 12 and just spread it out over a few weeks by adding in more rest days, active rest days, or other activities. Or, you can also experiment with another fitness program.  I would makes sure that it’s another weight training based fitness program.  Most importantly, continue with the Fat X diet, or another healthy diet plan.  Whatever you chose to do, good luck, and remember you can always get back to the Fat X Program a.k.a FX 12 to get you past a plateau or just back on track.

Shrimp and Asparagus Fettuccine

Prep Time: 25 Min
Cook Time: 25 Min
Ready In: 50 Min
Original Recipe Yield 8 servings
Ingredients
1 bunch fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
3/4 cup olive oil, or more if needed
6 cloves garlic, pressed
salt and pepper to taste
1 pound dry fettuccine pasta
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 pound uncooked shrimp – peeled, deveined, and tails removed
2 tablespoons seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®), or to taste
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, or more if desired
Directions
Separate the asparagus tips from the rest of the cut pieces, and set the tips aside. Heat 3/4 cup of olive oil over medium heat. Cook and stir the garlic in the hot oil until it begins to turn brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in the cut pieces of asparagus (not the tips), and season with salt and pepper. Cook and stir the asparagus until tender but still bright green, about 10 minutes, then add the asparagus tips. Cook and stir for 5 more minutes.
While the asparagus is cooking, fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the fettuccine, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink, return to the pot, and drizzle 2 teaspoons of olive oil over the pasta.
Remove the asparagus from the skillet with a slotted spoon, leaving oil in skillet, and set the asparagus aside. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels, and place in the hot skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle the shrimp with the seafood seasoning, and cook and stir the shrimp until they are pink and no longer translucent. Return the asparagus to the skillet, and cook the shrimp and asparagus until thoroughly heated, 2 to 3 more minutes.
Stir the shrimp and asparagus into the cooked fettuccine, and toss with shredded Parmesan cheese. The olive oil serves as the sauce, so add more as needed to generously coat the pasta, shrimp and asparagus.

Star Fried Bitter Melon with Pork, Egg, and Onion

Last year I planted two bitter melon plants in my garden. Unfortunately I was able to harvest only a few bitter melons. However, this spring I found ten bitter melon plants coming up from the soil. It seemed some fruits dropped the seeds last year and came up! They grew and I already picked up 6 or 7 fruits and more to come!

Bitter melon is extremely high in vitamin C. Recent studies show bitter melon can be effective for treating diabetes. Lately supplements of bitter melon are available, which regulate blood sugar level.

The taste of this vegetable is very bitter. But this can be addictive. I usually star-fry bitter melon with pork or chicken, eggs and onion. This dish gives you not only a delicious flavor but also many of the healthy benefits.

List of Boating Water Sports

Introduction

Watching folks fall while water skiing might be fun when you're sitting in front of the television set and watching America's funniest water videos, but getting out in the sun and daring yourself to travel at such high speeds is something else.

Look at this video, which is only slightly relevant to travelling at a high speed and water, but it is a treat to watch: Water Slide – Video

To most folks that I did see it with, it was jaw-dropping… amazing, just amazing! What a rush, man!

Water sports can do that for you, while also keeping you in shape with, of course, the danger of making it into a bloopers video now and then. Hey, what the hell, your fifteen minutes of fame… right?

Water Sport Types

The classification for one to understand water sports is very simple. The three common types (not unless these freaks hooked to making bloopers videos come up with something else!) are the ones in the water, on the water and under water.

The most common sports that you would see in the 'in the water' type are swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming and diving off springboards. Yes, these are sports that are a part of the Olympics as well as popular competition.

Some of the activities and sports under water include scuba and free diving, underwater hockey and rugby and rather singularly, underwater photography.

Amongst the three, the sports on the water outnumber the other two groups, and some of the most popular ones include canoeing, surfing, waterskiing, parasailing, fishing and the mother of all water sports, white water rafting.

Picking a water sport for fitness

Depending on your level of fitness and if you want to have fun while you are at it, one can pick any of these sports of which, the first type requires a lot of practice (as almost everyone of those sports listed are competitive in nature!).

Not only does perfecting these sports take years and years of practice but it requires dedication and focus to such as extent that achieving fitness using these sports is not just a goal but a serious requirement.

When it comes to the second type, these are the easiest of the lot but since you need to be under water, you need to know how to swim. If you don't, then it would be better to learn how to, and then try this list of sports.

Actually speaking of swimming (read: in the water sports), if one learns how to swim as well as a fish, that itself can help you achieve fitness to a large extent as the average number of calories burnt per hour is around 600.

It's the last list of sports that can be real fun where even beginners can try them, and the calories burned are sometimes far more than conventional exercises that one might use to workout with.

In Closing

Almost all the sports listed here, if used as exercise for an hour, can burn at least 300 to 600 calories while the vigorous effort of bodybuilding will help you lose about 200-4oo calories.

Trying water sports is not a bad idea at all, if you want to lose weight quickly, however, it is a good idea to stay from acts of daring as shown in the video above.
