Quinoa and Pomegranate Salad

This is a healthy dish that is not only filling and satisfying, but it is heart healthy! Quinoa is an amazing grain packed full of protein. Serve this as a side or feature it as a main dish.

Serves 6-8

  • 3 cups cooked Quinoa
  • 1/3 cup toasted pine nuts
  • 1 cup pomegranate arils
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup feta crumbles (optional)
  • 3-5 basil leaves depending on size, chopped (add more or less to satisfy your taste)
  • half cup frozen peas and carrots each, or fresh – carrots finely chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 table spoons dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning or 1 tablespoon sage
  • drizzle olive oil to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste

Prepare and cook the quinoa as the directions state. You will need about a cup of un cooked quinoa and 2 cups water. The ratio is very similar to rice.
Place bay leaf, dried parsley, Italian seasoning and poultry seasoning to the water. If you are using frozen peas and or carrots, place them in the boiling water, too. Cook until all water has been evaporated and quinoa is soft and ready to eat.
Let cool in a large mixing bowl before adding the remaining ingredients.
After it has cooled, add the remaining ingredients. It really doesn’t matter which order they are in – they are all going to be mixed around. Add the pomegranate arils, cranberries, feta, pine nuts, chopped fresh basil leaves, salt and pepper to taste and drizzle in the EVOO for a creamy texture and taste!

Cranberry Apple Pomegranate Detox Cleansing Diet Recipe

Are your feeling fresh and lively today? I hope so.

A couple days ago I had this diet for a full day. It was delisious and full of powerful antioxidents. A detox diet like this is so simple to do because, once you get used to them your are not hungry all day yet becoming healthier. You could, of course, use a couple different juice recipes through the day. The idea is a day of juice only to detox and cleanse your body.

The recipe amount makes a good meal size amount for one person. I had this 3 times during the day.

1) Take a nice big Pomegranate from the fridge and cut it in half then into wedges. Use your fingers to push the seeds into a bowl. Don’t worry when a few small pieces of the pomegranate husk fall into the bowl also, just pick them out. Then I just get a spoon and eat this while drinking my cranberry apple juice. Tes, I know this is not officially juice but they reall taste great this way.

2) Take about 5 apples and a one pound bag of cranberries and juice them up. Hopefully you had them in the fridge and they are nice and cold. This is a delicious blend and feel free to add this to your daily detox list. If you had a big glass of this with breakfast I think your would be glad you did.

Pomegranate Juice to Slow Prostate Cancer Progress

pomegranates to slow prostate riskStudy shows that drinking pomegranate juice may benefit men to slow the progress of prostate cancer.

Pomegranates contain a cocktail of chemicals which minimise cell damage, and potentially kill off cancer cells.

The study, by the University of California in Los Angeles, appears in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

Previous research had indicated that pomegranate juice could have a beneficial effect on prostate cancer in tests on mice.

But the latest study has shown that humans can potentially benefit too.

The presence of prostate cancer cells is monitored by measuring levels of a chemical they produce called prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The average doubling time of the PSA is about 15 months, but in patients who drank pomegranate juice this increased to an average of 54 months. This will help to delay the therapies such as hormone treatment or chemotherapy, both of which bring with them harmful side effects.

Besides the ability to slow prostate cancer progress, pomegranate juice may also protect human body from the damage by particles called free radicals because the anti-inflammatory effects and high levels of anti-oxidants in it.
