Help Send Children to Gluten-Free Summer Camp

The following post was not written by me, but it completely reflects my thoughts.  Please take a minute to read it and consider donating $2.

There’s an age-old saying that, in my opinion, has never been more true…

“It’s better to give than to receive.”

And the holiday season is the perfect time for you to give back to the community.

In the spirit of the giving season, I want to bring your attention to a fundraiser I’m helping promote this week for a great gluten-free cause.

This week only, giving just $2 of your hard-earned money will go toward providing scholarships for children to attend a gluten-free summer camp hosted by the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) next summer in Southern California.

But this week, donating $2 doesn’t mean you’re just donating $2…

The summer camp will be held in San Bernardino in Southern California from July 30 to August 3, 2012, and it’s open to all 7-15 year old gluten intolerant and gluten-sensitive children – not just those diagnosed with celiac disease.

Sure, receiving gifts this time of year is always fun, but the feeling of knowing that your generous donation of just $2 can bring a tremendous amount of joy to a young child… well, now that’s priceless.

Please help reach the goal of donating $2,000 to the Celiac Disease Foundation this week. Every $2 helps.

Get in Summer Shape with Boot Camp Workouts

For those of you in the Los Angeles area, I have a new FX Boot Camp class that has just started in Rosemead California at One on One Fitness Center.  If you’re lost and have no idea how to lose fat, tone up and get in great shape this Summer, come try one of my FX Boot Camp workouts.  You can come try a free FX Boot Camp workout at 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

Making Outdoor Memories: Your One Great Summer [Giveaway!]

That summer found me a sophomore in college taking classes (compulsive me, remember?), working three jobs (computer lab consultant, Chinese restaurant waitress and catering waitress), living in the crappiest apartment ever (it had a hole the size of a plate in the front exterior wall that we covered with a hubcap we found across the street) and no car. Best summer of my life! Why? Because every free second I had was spent up in the Rocky Mountains rock climbing with my best friends. As long as there was daylight in the canyon we were tethered to a rock face and when the sun set it was tent camping, midnight hikes, bonfires and whatever food I’d managed to scrounge from my waitressing gigs. We rarely slept, we never showered – isn’t that the definition of awesome?

That was the summer I was free rappelling down a 100-foot cliff, got my waist-length braid stuck in the figure 8 and had to hang in space for half an hour waiting for my friends to hike up to the top and lower me a pocket knife in a shoe so I could give myself the worst one-handed haircut ever while trying not to plummet to my death.

That was the summer we wallpapered our ugly apartment with multicolored butcher paper, taped three boxes of tinfoil to the ceiling, covered the whole mess – walls, ceiling, door frames -with multicolored Christmas lights and topped it off with a disco ball. It was every bit as horrendous as you are imagining. Probably worse.

That was the summer I went to a party on an island in the middle of a lake to which the directions included the bizarrely accurate imperative “Turn left at the goat in the road” followed by “Signal with you flashlight and we’ll send the canoe over.”

That was the summer I waited on the same elderly “sunbird” couple, who never tipped, every single day and the last day of their vacation the man told me with tears in his eyes that I was like family to them as he slipped a folded bill into my hand. It was $5.

That was the summer I rode on a bullet bike going 80 miles an hour through a canyon known for its mortality rate. Sans helmet. And I’ve never felt more free before or since. (For the record I would never do it again and it scares the crap out of me to think that one of my kids might attempt something similarly idiotic someday.)

The summer ended when my boyfriend proposed to me – while rock climbing, naturally – and I said no and gave him back the ring and he asked me again and I said no again and then we had a huge fight culminating with him throwing the ring (and some other stuff) at me which sadly broke up our little merry bad of hygiene-challenged mountaineers.

I kept the braid. I kept the ring. I kept every minute of that summer etched into the memory of my body. The sunlight is burnt into my skin, the cool slippery rock face still rough under my fingertips, the slick coating of chili out of a can lines my throat, the lyrics to every Sublime song just behind the tip of my tongue (okay, and a lot of Scorpion songs too – some of my friends had terrible taste in music). Someday, I’m going to be the grandma in the old folks’ home yelling “I said belay on!!” at the orderly before hitting him with a rock.

One great summer. Everyone has one. I’ve shared mine with you, now I want to hear all about yours!

3 Easy Tips to Lose Fat and Get a Summer Body

Summer is fast approaching and it’s time to break some more of my easy tips and techniques to burn fat fast.  Let’s face it, knowing that during Summer more clothes come off and more of your body will be showing is a great motivator to get that great looking toned, ripped, and lean looking Summer body.  Use these three easy tips to lose fat fast so as to show off six pack abs and not a bowl of belly fat. 

If you’re doing the Fat X Program and utilizing the Fat X Diet philosophy you’re well on your way to a great Summer body.  Adding these 3 easy tips will speed up results and help you lose fat faster. While these tips are really easy and simple to implement, don’t dismiss the power of them.  Like the Fat X Workouts, and the Fat X Diet, use these tips consistently for best results.

Tip number one for a great Summer body:  Keep a water bottle next to your bed, and hydrate as the first thing you do when you wake up.  Dehydration can set in over night and cripple your metabolic processes which will slow down your fat loss and fitness progress.

Tip number two for a great Summer body: End your day with a diet meal high in protein and low in carbohydrates (carbs).  Your body will deplete it’s glycogen stores. This will allow your body to begin breaking down fat for energy over night and as you sleep. 

Tip number three for a great Summer body: Start your day with a diet meal high in protein and low in carbohydrates (carbs).  Your body’s glycogen stores will be depleted and your body will continue to use fat and break down body fat for energy.

Are You Ready For Summer?

There are 85 days left until the official start of summer (June 21).

That means if you start now, there is still plenty of time for you to look slimmer and feel GREAT by the time the warm weather rolls around.

If you start on the Turbulence Training program this week, you’ll have enough time to complete 2 rounds of workouts before it’s time to hit the beach! Here are a few considerations:

Achieve a Trim Toned Body For Summer

So you have some fun outdoor activities planned this Summer, possibly some beach outings, where you’ll be wearing a bikini and or shorts, tank tops and basically showing off your body, but at the moment your body isn’t as toned, trim and beach body ready as you would like it to be.  Most people wait until the last minute to get their body ready for Summer. Then they go on extreme diets, or exercise for countless hours on worthless workouts to burn body fat and try to achieve that trim and toned, beach body.  There’s a better way to achieving that trim and toned, beach ready body, than using extreme diets and long worthless workouts!


First of all, the process of achieving you’re trim and toned beach ready body should start months before Summer. Achieving the trim and toned look, requires a low body fat percentage, so you need to burn/lose excess body fat. You should start to burn body fat early in the year with properly set up workouts, and a healthy diet, so as to avoid the pitfalls of last minute crash dieting and marathon workouts. 

Crash dieting makes you feel like crap, and marathon workouts can actually harm your body and lead to injury.  Starting the process of achieving your trim and toned beach ready body early, allows you to settle into small short term fat burning goals, that will lead to a big fat burning goal long term.

Keeping track of your fat loss is extremely important in staying on track to achieving your trim and toned beach body goal. Measuring your belly area is an easy way to track fat loss and keep track of your fat burning progress.  The belly area is where most people store a large amount body fat, and as you start burning body fat, that’s wear it will be easily measurable and trackable. 

Making a reasonable fat loss goal is also important. Let’s say you start on your fat burning workout and diet program in January, and you want to lose 4 inches around your belly area by Summer.  You’re goal only has to be about 1/2 an inch a month and you’ll be down 4 inches in plenty of time for Summer.  

So you’re motivated to start burning that body fat and getting your trim and toned beach ready body, but now what?  Well, if you’re a beginner, I would suggest doing the Fat X Program (FX 12) and completing a Fat X Project at a slow pace the first time through, since the workouts have been described as “no joke”.  Even though the workout program was designed to be done in 12 days, if you’re a beginner, doing the workout program over a longer period will still get you off to a good start on achieving that beach ready body in time for Summer.  

If you’re intermediate to advanced, I would suggest following the Fat X Program (FX 12)as closely as possible and try to complete the workouts in 12 days for the fastest results.  While health and fitness should be a long term goal, getting fast results is important for motivational purposes.  Those fast results early, will help you stay positive and on a healthy long term path to achieving and maintaining that trim and toned, beach ready body.

Whichever way you choose to get through the Fat X Program (FX 12), keep in mind that the specifics of the program are what make it special and set it apart from anything else out there.  I made an easy to follow guide to help you stay on track during the workouts.  The workout videos are free, but consider downloading the workout guide so that I can continue to fund Fat X 101 and bring you free tips to help you achieve your fat burning and fitness goals.

Simple Summer Diet Detox Cleansing Recipe

What comes with summer besides bikinis and suntans and long days lounging on the beach? Fresh Fruit.

Here is my simple method to take advantage of all the wonderful bounty of summer fresh fruit.

For one thing, most the summer I have a fruit only day every week. Yep! just take whatever favorites I am in the mood for and pick a day and eat nothing else. By the way you can just forget all those goofy colon cleanse pills and junk. With this method you will never need them

My not officially scientific experiment with those over priced colon cleansing kits is when I take them they barely change anything. Almost the same amount of stuff comes out. That is because my healthy diet and active life keeps me from building up a lot of junk. Now you can save some money too, and just go buy more fresh food with it. Make an investment in your health bank, your body.

At least once every summer I set up a 3 day fruit detox cleanse.

The day before and the day after I make sure I have a huge green salad and use olive oil and season it with spices right off my rack, like yummy pesto seasoning and a splash of lemon juice.

Now you have to wrap your brain around the idea of only fruit for 3 whole days. I find it helps to pick a variety. I love nectarines, plums, and cantalope very much so I get a lot of those.

Look for the juicy types of fruit. Grapes, water mellon, strawberries, (is your mouth watering?). Get plenty and there is a high possibility you will finish the diet a few pounds lighter.

Every day I drink water with a splash of lemon juice. I buy Lemon Juice in the bottle by the quart. Some may say this is cheating but when it is cold and ready to easily use it is more likely I will do it. Extra glasses of this are also on the 3 day summer fruit diet detox cleansing recipe.

These are very delicious foods. I think a healthy diet can be a fun and tasty experience. If you do find during the detox that you are just craving some cooked food let me share my secret weakness killer. Hot Broth. Chicken or even beef broth, a big glass while sitting down to really appreciate and enjoy it will satisfy that craving and make it easy to complete the 3 days.

Summer Salads

Well Seattle has finally seen some summer temperatures. And quite frankly, I miss the cloudy, cool days. 75 is perfect! 85-95… not so much.
In honor of the rising temperature I am showcasing some of my latest salad creations. Most of the time I simply pile a bunch of random vegetables and fruit in a bowl and call it a meal. A variety of textures is key for a scrumptious salad!

Ten Tips and Tricks to Tone Up This Summer

So you waited to the last minute to start burning the fat, losing the weight and toning up for Summer. Well, there’s good news and bad news.  The bad news is that it’s pretty late to get that Summer body.  The good news is that you still have most of the Summer left, and if you get started A.S.A.P, you can still tone up your body relatively fast and show it off for mid to late Summer.

You’re options are now limited, but if you do have the Fat X 12 Day Program (FX 12) at your disposal, and if you make sure to follow these ten tips and tricks to tone up, you will be well on your way to burning the fat, losing the weight, and toning up fast. Here are the ten tips and tricks you should be doing to tone up fast.

1. Make your last meal of the day a small bowl of vegetables.
2. Start your morning with a protein smoothie.
3. Drink green tea in some form through out the day.  (I have 5-7 cups)
4. Eat fish at least 3-5 times a week.
5. Snack on berries. 
6. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
7. Include protein in every meal.
8. Include either vegetables or berries in every meal.
9. Think about adding a fat burning supplement/fat burner (Clients have used Lipo-6 successfully)
10. Make sure to use the heaviest weight/resistance possible in your workouts.

For some of you these tips and tricks might not be new, but they serve as a good reminder of things you should be doing to tone up fast, especially when you’ve waited to the last minute to get your Summer body.  If they are new, start implementing them now and get that fat off and tone up fast.
