The Truth About the hCG Diet, Strange Ways to Save Money and other dubious advice from me this week
I love words. It’s no secret. And no words ever make me laugh harder than unintentional autocorrects. My personal best: I once tried to text a friend “don’t be so catastrophic” but after my phone mangled it, it came out “go lick cats a** ” She texted back, “That is like the worst advice ever.” There isn’t an LOL-ism to show how hard I laughed. Anyhow, if you need a giggle, check out Darnyouautocorrect.com
In other wordy news, not only did I publish my first newspaper feature this week and get profiled in the same paper but I also wrote some stuff. A lot of stuff. Enjoy! Or skip it and go straight to autocorrect and laugh yourself silly. It’s Friday!
Fitness Stuff:
10 Tips From People Whose Body Is Their Career. My personal fave was Kara Goucher, elite marathoner and Olympian, who said, “”I used to be super restrictive about what I ate and watched everything I put into my mouth. Then I went the other way and ate a little bit too much of everything. Now, I’m in a healthier place. No food is off limits—if I tell myself I can’t have something, I’m way more likely to eat the entire container than if I allow myself to just have some. So I eat healthy most of the time, but if I want dessert, or a glass of wine, I have it!” Even elite athletes like intuitive eating!
8 Reasons Why You Should Lift Heavy Weights. Seriously ladies, there are so many great mental and physical benefits of lifting heavy! Plus, then you’ll know that when someone says “Hey, nice rack!” that they actually are complimenting your lifting form. Usually.
7 Unknown Spots to Score Affordable Workout Clothes. Did you know you can make your own yoga capris out of a large t-shirt? Or that Dancewear Solutions isn’t just for dancers (and has the cutest tanks for less than $15)? Be your own Fitshonista. Yeah, okay, fitshonista is never going to catch on.
The Truth About the hCG Diet Plan. Remember how I said the surest way to make people mad is to rip on their fave diet plan? Well, keep in mind that it was the FDA who called this one “dangerous, illegal and fraudulent.” Not that I’m a huge fan of it either.
Bloggers Reveal The #1 Best Get Healthy Tip They’ve Ever Gotten. And I win an award for the wordiest headline ever written! Yay me! (Seriously, is there a class for writing good headlines? Because I need one. Now.)
And for a change, I’m actually in the piece instead of writing it. Want to check out my slightly embarrassing choices for workout songs? (Yes I’m a 33-year-old mom who loves Pitbul. I have no idea how a short, bald man can be so sexy but there you go.) I’ve also recently discovered Lindi Ortega (video embedded below) and you should see me run to this one – I can’t help but sing out loud! Yep, I’m that girl. Parenting Stuff
Great Mom Debate: Have you made your kids write their thank-you cards yet? Here’s the thing about thank-you cards: they’re a lot of work for the parents. I know, I know, we’re raising courteous human beings and all. I do it. I just whine a lot.
When Babies Get Grabby: 5 ways that babies (adorably) make you a flasher. President Obama recently demonstrated what to do when one is “fish-hooked” by a tiny one. Seriously, I’ve watched this video 10 times now and I still go “awwww…!”
Moms’ 10 Weirdest Tips for Saving Money. I have smart mommy friends. But the thing that most amused me about this piece were the comments. Half the people were like “Wha…? These are the weirdest tips ever! Who does this crap??” and the other half were like “These tips aren’t weird! I was promised weird! Where are the sewer alligators dangit?!”
Kids bad reactions to hilarious gift giving. I can’t remember if I already linked this one here but the video is so funny, it’s worth watching twice;)

Wednesday WOOT- back next week! PROMISE! {Day 10 1KO21}

Happy Wednesday Kittens! How’s your week going? Mine is going great! I’m on “day 10″ of my first 21-Day Challenge where I am focusing first and foremost on CONSISTENCY. Working out every day- 6x a week, no matter what. I won’t stop this focus but consistency has NOT been my boyfriend for a while and we totally need to get back together and like GO STEADY.
I feel good about the physical therapy thing too and my shoulder. She nudged me last night in that teres minor/major area and said, “You might be really sore when you get home” and I chuckled as I walked out. HOLY CRAP later on I was diving into some ice like it was Huge Jackman. Seriously.

NOT my idea of what I want to cuddle up with but it worked. I go back tomorrow and Friday and next week I do three days. SO looking forward to being able to LIFT again. And Kettlebells. And TRX, and you know!! Being a badass again. ;-0 Such as…
So, in the mean time, cheers to my new good habits that are sticking:
- The Brita Challenge has been a fun and competitive way to get myself back into drinking water all day long. I love me some Diet Coke but I’m now drinking a TON more water every day. I just get out the purple pitcher when I’m home and that whole pitcher must be done by the end of the day. On the road, I take that awesome water bottle with a filter in it with me. NICE>
- The 1KO21 challenge is working. I’m getting the HABIT thing where my workouts are starting to feel again like brushing my teeth or getting the mail or showering or thinking about Huge Jackman – it’s what I do EVERY DAY.
hehehohoh - No Excuses. There is always something we CAN do. No excuses. This mantra is working.
Here’s my ramble-on-a-thon from yesterday:
Blah blah blah. I swear I could make my vlogs into a CD and it could replace Excedrin PM as a way for me to fall asleep. LOL
Gotta run.
Question of the day: If you could only do ONE “kind” of workout~ what would it be? Cardio? A certain type of cardio? Weights? Crossfit? Yoga?
TGIF! Did you crush it this week??

The week isn’t over yet. Don’t end it on a low note! COME ON!! I’m actually heading out in a few to meet my BFF Anna for sushi and likely some sake (WHAT?) so, I must be brief. When does THAT ever happen? LOL

Kids, I actually shot a SMALL BRIEF vlog this morning after my workout because– I wanted to try out one of my new Brazil Butt Lift DVDs. I don’t know why- I’ve been very 50/50 on my thoughts of what these workouts would be- but (no pun intended) there are NOT a lot of DVDs that focus soley on the glutes–right? I actually saw on the P90X Facebook page I think that a lot of women found P90X to be lacking in the butt-work area so they mixed in BBL. Anyway, I personally think the outfits in the video are kinda cheesy (that’s just me, this has no relevancy at all!!) and the teacher’s accent is BIG and he comes across as very HIGH ENERGY and well- anyway—- I didn’t know what I’d think of the workout. I had previewed the instructional video and thought that maybe this DVD would be more – working on the butt but not a ‘cardio factor’. So I started off with Cathe HIIT 30/30.
Then I ventured into the first DVD called (gulp) Bum Bum. Yes, it’s called Bum Bum and he says Bum Bum a LOT.
Let me tell you this. SO MUCH MORE INTENSE THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!!!! OMG!! First of all, I didn’t finish because I actually had to stop and catch my breath and rewind. I am — even at first peek, SO much more excited about this DVD set than I ever thought before- here’s my little winded review:
I’m telling you kids- I plan to do the entire DVD and then the others but I was so pleasantly surprised. I have a feeling my bootie is gonna be happy- all the moves are DEFINITELY working every area of the butt plus of course you get your legs in there too and the cardio factor- YOU WILL BE BURNING! WOOT!
I only did like a total of 35 minutes in all and I burned 375 calories. Not bad for a quickie. And yes, you CAN order Brazil Butt Lift from my Beachbody Website if you’d like- so full disclosure, I will earn a commission.
For those of you reading my blog for a while, I think you know I share/review/recommend a lot of stuff and most of it is just stuff I’m addicted to, but I do earn a commission on the BB stuff so I want to disclose that. Those of you that know me know that I don’t rave about anything unless I LOVE IT.

I Need an 8-Day Week Please.

Good LORD. I mean really?? I am getting a little tired of running around FRAZZLED all the time. Today was sheer madness. And I cannot lie to you- it is 9:40pm and I have not gotten my workout in at all. Shame on me. You’ll see in my rambolicious vlog below that I had a boatload of stuff to do in the 24 hours that I’m home. I’m off to Las Vegas tomorrow through Sunday. So I got home Monday night from Miami and had today to pick up and drop off dry cleaning, meet with my assistant about how to deal with the house-painters while I’m gone, pack, (do wash before/during my packing) finish 3 conference calls, a lunch meeting and a doctor’s appointment, then pick up a new skirt for work/trip on the way home. And, here we are at 9:41pm and I’m posting a blog, still packing and hoping to go to bed any second.
I haven’t even sat down and chilled since I’ve been home. Not for one second.
I am taking my camcorder with me people and I’m determined to find out how I can upload my vlogs on the road. This must happen. I’m a traveling road show, you peeps need to be in the know! Stay tuned.
Also planning to get a few solid runs in with @sarahkayhoffman (she’s another one you can hang with at our Sears Fit Club on Facebook!). So, packing is no longer simple- I need workout clothes, I need “in the room clothes” (sweats/robe), I need conference clothes for DAY and cocktail party clothes for night. Add toiletries, shoes, workout DVDs, and more….you can see why I may be using two suitcases. You gotta spread the weight out.
I also REALLY want a TRX system. Just putting that OUT THERE.
I’m annoyed that I didn’t get my workout in today, so I’m off to bed early, so I can wake up early, get in some cardio and weights before I leave, then I’ll do my 4 mile run at the hotel gym before the party tomorrow night. Heavens to Betsy. For those of you curious as to what training I’m following for Vegas, CLICK HERE.
Gotta run kittens.
